No Longer Loved

You are warmly invited to the exclusive screening of the documentary ‘No Longer Loved’ by Elouise Hahn (Loreto Kirribilli 05). This moving and eye-opening documentary takes a closer look at the ageing time bomb in India known as 'Granny-dumping'. Increasing numbers of children are abandoning their parents on the streets, outside railway stations or in under-resourced hospitals to fend for themselves in old age.

No Longer Loved outlines the emotional plight of these people and follows the transformation of three courageous women who once dumped by their children, are now living in a loving home run by a small local charity.

This is the first screening of the documentary and will be followed by a panel discussion about the role of social justice within the media.

Special guests include:

Fr Richard Leonard SJ, Director of the Australian Catholic Film and Broadcasting

Helen McCabe, Editor of Australian Women’s Weekly magazine

Sandy Aloisi, ABC Presenter and Journalist

MWIA Chair, Kathryn Greiner AO

Funds raised will go towards life-saving projects which Mary Ward International Australia (MWIA) supports around the world in its mission to empower women to transform structures that keep them oppressed and marginalised. Donations will also be given to an Indian charity called Friends of Kolkata’s Elderly (FOKE). FOKE was an initiative started by Sr Cyril Mooney ibvm who was the principal at Loreto Sealdah in Kolkata. FOKE cares for abandoned elderly on the streets of Kolkata and also provides education to children in various forms. The documentary ‘No Longer Loved’ revolves around this issue and highlights the work of FOKE.

Ticket price includes canapes and drinks served from 6 - 7.00pm.
